that beautiful breeze that we feel
will soon not be there
soon it will be nothing but chemicals
extreme weather tearing the earth apart, just like us
what we are doing will kill us, and the weather that happens because of it will speed up the process.
Outside
feel the beautiful breeze in the trees
hearing the beautiful birds chirping
the colorful colors on each plant in the garden
fresh smell of flowers
In spring,
Trees are getting their leaves back,
Flowers are growing
It’s getting warmer outside
Instead of warm weather now we get either weather that’s really hot or really cold
Instead of bright green grass
I see mostly trash laying on the ground
Ahhhh…summer…
The trees grow
tTe grass turns greener than ever
The sun is out nice and bright
But what’s this?
Pollution? Litter? Cutting Trees down? How Much worse can this get???
Earth…There’s only one were we can live,Keep it alive!
tThe is supposed to be The*
Outside
Where the wind moves the trees like it moves the soul
Looking outside the window
Looking at stars
You see a dark cloud
Drip drip
Water comes like the tears in my eyes
The Stars never shine for me they always hide
Nice poems I want to know what happens
I feel hooves,
like the pulse of a heartbeat–
constant,
deliberate,
courageous,
push the soil
down deeper,
leaving prints
on my landscape.
It’s a horse
and his rider,
passing through
my breath,
leaving
bravery,
partnership,
compassion
to get wrapped
up in the branches
of my trees.
Walking around outside
And seeing all the trash everywhere
Wondering why people don’t respect this earth.
Maybe,
If they had more trash cans around,
Less people would litter
And mother nature could be happy again.
I look at the moon
from Earth.
Asking for answers.
Why are we here?
How does one planet
hold so many souls?
And how could so many souls
hurt other souls?
This poem is many question that we all ask, my favorite line is,” how does this planet hold so many souls ” I’ve always questioned that maybe we will never know …
She wraps us in her embrase
She cries with rain
Sings with the wind
And laughs with the waves
We take her for granted
It hurts her
If we keep doing it she can hold us anymore
we will loose everything with her
Even ourselves
God made this world for us
Why do we treat it so bad
We don’t pick up our garbage
We don’t care about the animals
We don’t care about all of the animals that are dying for our own entarteinment
So stop saying what your going to do
And do it
I like how you pointed out modern day problems.
Today
pick up trash
recycle
and love the earth
keep the earth clean
keep it beautiful
For the better
Plant a tree
Pick up trash
Use recyclable items
Do something
Better for the Earth
Make the World
Cleaner
A better place
And yet we still have factories that have smoke coming out of them and polluting the Earth 24/7…
Earth day,
A day we can give back,
When we help the earth,
After the Earth has provided us,
With life,
Oxygen.
Everyday
We take our planet for granted.
We are blinded by city lights and fancy gadgets,
We think that civil rights are more important than nature.
But If we don’t protect this Earth,
We won’t need civil rights, power, money, or anything else
Because if we don’t protect this planet,
There will no longer be a planet,
Along with its dominant species.
Hey Leilany, I agree with the line, “We take our planet for granted”, because humans have done this, and they show it through deforestation, which destroys the habitats of animals, and another example is that the carbon dioxide levels have reached an all time high unseen in the last 3 million years.
Green, Blue and Brown
More and more brown
Each day this color grows
Who’s causing this
Well the smallest things
Effect a lot of big things
Then there’s the ones that think
The ones who try to help
It’s just not going to happen
Seeing this place
Green and Blue once again
With what we have at the moment
Green, Blue, and Brown
Perhaps some red in there as well
A small place in the universe,
but a big place to us.
We grab all these things from Mother Nature,
to turn to evil,
just
to
satisfy us.
We destroy its wonderful
creatures.
Our attempt to stop never works.
“Make more industries!”
“Cut down trees!”
“Put the gasoline in the car.”
All these things,
slowly….
destroy…..
our….
planet.
I like how you visualized all of the plants as mother nature’s “Wonderful creatures”. I think that humans should view the earth as something/one that we hold very closely to our hearts, and respect it. Although on this day we usually look at all of the horrible things we are doing to the earth, I want to point out that many big tree-cutting companies actually regrow more trees than they cut. Humans are doing a lot to save the world too, not just destroying it with chemicals (although that is happening)
Earth
Don’t let it go to waste
There’s only one
If people trash it now what’ll that mean for future generations?
Take care of the planet we have
Before it’s gone
Beautiful Earth
We should be grateful for this planet
it has all the resources for life to live
The least we can do is clean the place we live and gives us what need
Earth
Why do we take it for granted?
The flowers, animals, blue sky
Earth is beautiful
But were too busy to admire
Everything in front of us
This world so great
Help’s us breath live
To be free
Enjoy mother nature
Admire the great beauty
The water falls
The mountains
The oceans
We should be greatful to be in this world
One world
Only one
And why do we treat it like crap?
We should care for this one world
We try to take care of it
Why is it so hard to clean and save electricity?
Why is it so easy to litter and waste electricity?
Will it be easy later in years or harder?
Maybe we should try harder
Seeing people walk by
Not knowing where they are headed
Wishing you could follow them
being a tree is rough
the flowers bloom
how wonderful
so beautiful until
we take them away
we don’t care for them
they are wonderful aren’t they
but we aren’t looking out for them we see them
and we walk on them
but earth is a beautiful place when its clean
and when its full of flowers and pretty trees
Why do we get mad when other people take away our homes?
We take away living animals homes everyday?
We build malls over forest preserves
We break down trees and plants to make trails for people to walk on
We cry when were evicted
But do you here the cries of the ones you evicted?
This got to me when you said “we take animals homes everyday”
because its true because people takes homes almost everyday
I can relate this so much because all of things that you are saying here are so true. Especially in the part where you said “we take away living animals homes everyday” because we never think about all of the animal that are left with out a home and its true that we only cry about it when it happens to us.
Earth…a giant sphere
that everyone would be dead without
was always there from
beginning
to end
providing us with everything essential
without anything in return
a big old sphere
that we all call home.
While some of us sit and learn
Some of us learn the way of life
Why do we not appreciate what we have
Why the ground that we live on
We build on
Why do we trash it
Why do we treat it like we do
It treats us better than we treat it
My mom taught me the golden rule
So why don’t we use it for everything?
When you said,”why the ground that we live on, why do we trash it?” made me feel almost angry that the very ground and air we live and breathe on, is trashed and littered on everywhere.
Our earth is special there is just one
It gives us water, soil, and the sun
People and animals share the land
Let’s all lend a helping hand
You can save some water, and plant a tree
Make a better home for you and me
Recycle things, don’t throw away
Make every day an earth day
The Earth in which we live in
produces trees and nature
in a large part of this world the earth produces trees
and by these trees we play sports/activities
trees do a lot for us and we don’t even notice
The earth is our home
Where all living things roam
Wild and free
All strung together like the perfect melody
The earth is our home that we live on each day
So take a deep breath and thank it today
The sun is shining.
The oxygen is refreshing.
The earth is giving us so much that we need.
The trees are being cut.
Chemicals are destroying the ozone layer.
Fellow animals are being brutally murdered.
That is our thank you to the earth.
Humans are selfish.
As long as we have what we want during our lifetime,
We don’t stop to consider the next generation,
Or the one after that.
So don’t be that guy
Who throws wrappers on the ground.
Uses energy way too much.
Be considerate.
I think the first two paragraphs worked well off each each other and made the poem better.
70 degrees,
At last there’s no more freeze.
Sun is shining ,
No more whining.
Spring is finally here!
Which means,
summer is near!
It’s time to think about trees
It’s time to care for the leaves
It’s time tell peeps
like donald trump to care about these
Sunlight shines down,
isn’t it beautiful?
the grass is yellowing,
but at least it’s still there right?
the trees are knocked down,
can we convince them to stop?
the icebergs melt rapidly,
what have we done to this planet?
Pick up that trash
Don’t leave it anymore
Before you know it
It will fly in someone’s door
Don’t pluck that flower
It’ll loose it’s life
Someone worked had
Don’t cut it with a knife
It’s important to someone
Someone who cares
To have a clean place
Take care of the Earth
Fall
The time for thanks and giving
but first a game you say?
I grab the ball
and run, and shout
hey everybody
come on
lets us play some football
spring
fall
winter
summer
the beautiful seasons of Illinois
flowers
snow
all important to the daily lifestyle
i fell the wind passing through my hair zoning past mile marker 18 on the trail going to leave after mile marker 20 the birds chirping singing their song the millions of trees looming over me providing nice shade oh there goes mile marker 19 the beautiful lake that i’m riding along oh it looks so amazing so enticing i keep riding the nature around me keeps getting more rough then i see it mile marker 20 the end of the trail i get on the road with my friend and we make the quick ride back to his house and i start to miss the amazing nature i just rode through
Books are my life,
But trees give me life.
As trees are chopped,
Should we allow
Thin sheets to be printed
With full words?
More and more come down
As these books help us rise.
Are the trees that let us breath
Worth the stories we breath in
Every single day?
But then we breath every day too…
The feeling of the solid cover,
Brushing pages with your hands.
The stale, sweet smell
Fliling your lungs,
When fresh oxygen could be
Filling them as well.
Are killing these trees worth it?
Or should we kill the characters
Inspiring us to be our best,
Helping us complete every-day tasks.
But trees give us every-day life.
Which should we pick?
When you said, “Books are my life, But trees give me life,” it made me really wonder because I do love reading, but by people making books, it is cutting down trees, which helps us to live.
the sun is shining bright against my eyes
It’s almost blinding I look away but it’s still their
it follows me wherever I go
I drop down my cool shades and say
“Deal with it”
(⌐■_■)
the wind messing up my hair
The grass tickling my feet
Feeling free for once
like I can do anything
and no one is ever going to stop me
Running around feeling the breeze hit my face
nature is the best thing we have
we torture it sometimes
and we don’t appreciate it as much as we should
we need to learn how to appreciate what we have
because one day it might all be gone
Grass
Posts
Ball
Winning
Teammates
Soccer
The breeze hits my face
Soft and gentle
My foot touches the ground
Getting tickled by the grass
My hand touches the flowers
Feeling the beautiful textures
Of the flowers
My nose tingles by the smell
Of nature
Beautiful, beautiful nature
CRUNCH!
you hear as you fall into a pile of leaves
SNAP!
you hear as you land on your arm that can’t
be good
Earth day
Oh Earth day how do I start with this poem
Earth day is such a beautiful day
earth individually it’s beautiful itself
All we do for Earth is sometimes beautiful
Campfires
Flowers
Trees
everything is beautiful
#Earthisbeautiful
Campfire
SNAP!
whoooooshhh
crackle crackle crackle
Sizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I like how you used an onomatopoeia to show your love for campfires it added a really nice tough to your poem
earth day
it is a day to preserve
our environment and
give back to the earth
recycle and help
and the world will be
a better place
It seems like the perfect day,
to have a first communion.
As we drive down the street to Fresh Market.
“Aren’t the trees wonderful?” says my visiting grandma
I just stare ahead, onlooking the trees as if something insignificant.
The day skips ahead.
We are entering church,
my little sister in her bright white gown.
The trees around a dull green,
no color at all.
The day skips ahead again,
and my sister just received communion.
I see relatives everywhere,
but something catches my eye as soon as we step outside.
The trees.
Instead of that dull green, everything had bloomed.
White and pink and red was everywhere.
Everyone noticed it.
Maybe my grandma wasn’t wrong after all.
I really like how you made this piece about your personal life but connected it to the topic of the earth and the observations that you made outside.
I love the earth,
It gives me life,
With oxygen, food, water, shelter,
I live happily,
Doing my part everyday,
More or less,
But once a year it comes time to show my appreciation,
For all that the earth has done for me,
So I show all my gratitude by saying,
A big hardy,
Thanks.
I like how you used this poem as sort of a thank you note to earth and how it gives you happiness “For all that the earth has done for me” shows strength and kindness.
Like a sign of hope small sprouts pop out of the dirt
The crushed, lifeless ground is now filling with color
Bare, naked trees are now covered with a blanket of soft green,
I watch the shells of flowers wrap into each other,
waiting for their time to be born
Like a miracle soft breezes feel comforting next to the hot air
Sunlight feeds crops that had forgotten how to breath
My fingers brush sharp branches
I lean in to smell a fresh lilac
Joy fills sound vibrations that echo in my ears
children back outside to play in the mud
Like a fortuitous event the birds return to their homes
Prepared for Spring
Mother Nature takes care of the earth as a mother takes care of her child.
Both need nurturing in order to grow.
We plant the seeds to take root and watch in wonder
as a sapling sprouts into a tree or a child grows into an adult.
We all need to work together to help Mother Nature with her child,
because we use her resources and need to replenish them.
Earth
Chirp Chirp Chirp
Birds communicating together
The sun in my eyes
I have to move
Bottles everywhere
I stand up I pick them up
2 squirrels chasing each other
Looks like their playing tag
I wonder if they play games too
2 birds fly past my house
I see a car passing by
What do they do they drop a water bottle
I run and I pick it up and I look at the plates
But its to late they all ready get out of my sight
The sun shining down hot as can be.
The water drops softy off the leaves.
wind blowing swiftly like a slight breeze.
Trees moving just a little bit.
Leaves of all sorts growing back.
Flowers starting to pop right out.
Spring is now in start.
I’m sitting on the ground,
the tall green grass,
of a vast field.
A bird fly’s overhead,
chirping as it passes,
every so often twirling as the wind courses through it’s feathers.
A flower blooms a couple feet away from me,
it’s forming pedals,
green with youth.
the sky blue,
not a cloud.
The earth is ours
We take care of it
Mother nature is always around us
All the animals looking at us
Its time to change
Time to care
We share this earth with all the animals
Theres over 100 billion of breathing things
Like you and me but only One earth
No plane B
Its a beautiful fall day
leaves falling from trees
covering the ground
with every possible shade of yellow, orange, red and green
Things are dying
Things are dead
But it’s natural
It’s fine
They can grow
They can learn
But it’s going too fast
Too fast for them
Things are dying
Things are dead
I like how you repeated the line where you said “things are dying, things are dead”. It shows how although animals die everyday and most of it is through natural causes, a lot of endangerment is caused by people.
I like how you take your o=poem forward in a positive way, but then bring it back with a sad reality. It’s really cool how you both start and finish the poem with the same line.
Picture 1:
Regular fall morning,
The sun is shining bright,
A walk through the park,
Is a beautiful sight.
The leaves are turning colors,
Red, Yellow, Orange, and Green,
It’s one of the most wonderful things I have ever seen.
A cool windy breeze,
Makes you feel at ease.
Birds flying and chirping in the bright, blue sky,
Once spring comes around,
I sometimes wish that I wouldn’t have to say bye.
“Bye Fall, and Hello Spring.”
A clever line is, ” a cool windy breeze, makes you feel at ease,” becuase you explained it so well. When a cool and windy breeze hits you, you feel like you let loose and go. You let the wind run through you, you feel excitement, wonder ,and you just explained in a couple of words.
Earth day is a special day
It was when my mom was born
And you could really envy her
Because earth day is very special
Birds are chirping their own melodies
And people go outside and appreciate the new sprouting trees
As well as the sky that clouds run along on
It’s important to cherish nature and the earth
It’s what gave us shelter and basically everrything
Solid ground
Breaks my fall
And my bones.
I fall on the ground
Slowly and calmly
I fall lightly and breathe
Something bright is filling my eyes
I see my home, the rest of my siblings hanging on
All the same color
Oh, I wish I was still there
But it was my time to leave
At least Im not the only one on the ground
I can relate to when you said “at least I’m not the only one on the ground” because I have been in situations where I have done/become something different than everyone else, but then i realized that I wasn’t the only one who had done/become that.
Counting rings
Cut down by construction workers
100 rings
Carved into by passing tourist
200 rings
Sat on by tired children
300 rings
Stapled with flyers
400
How many years do you think
Went into growing this tree?
40
28
50
300?
We cut down a lot faster than we can
Grow
Leaving the stump
And me
To count the rings
I can relate to the part when you said “Leaving the stump and me to count the rings” because when I was little I would always come across those when I was on a dog walk and I remember making my mom or dad stop so I could look at all of the rings.
(Cringe warning)
The trees grow
Trying to reverse mankind’s destruction
Mankind grows
And destroys the trees
The little boy smiles,
As he sees,
The small seedling,
He grows with excitement,
As he plants the mini tree,
Surrounding it with soil,
And knows how big,
Of an impact he is making
i like how you wrote, ” and knows how big, of an impact he is making.” because, i feel like that is what earth day is all about.
When I look out the window,
I see leaves starting to grow,
On beautiful trees,
Which are buzzing with bees,
The sound of ice cream trucks,
And baseball games,
It’s a scenic day,
If only there were more that were the same.
When a seedling grows,
it becomes a tree.
When smoke grows,
it destroys the air.
When a bright flower picks its moment to lay out its pedals.
The sun coating the earth making everything under it a lighter color.
Or the leaves that form a pile on the ground after their long fall.
Snowflakes letting the wind take the course of where to land.
Then it begins again.
Bees acting as a messenger bringing pollen for each flower to get its share.
The repetition of cricket noises that are still to be heard even with a closed window.
The rake used to drag all the leaves in the backyard to the curb.
And the fire that illuminates warmth even with cold through the windows.
Then it goes around even again.
The not too cold nor too warm weather that encourages sports outside.
The endless noise of kids screaming and ice cream trucks singing.
Climbing that large tree to get the best looking apple on the apple farm.
Thinking of the old memories in the snow, on Christmas, and the freezing cold.
All gone in the summer.
But don’t worry,
it’ll loop around again.
I like how you used the technique of simile when you said, “Bees acting as a messenger bringing pollen for each flower to get its share.” It enhances the poem because it helps the reader picture the bees pollinating.
The tree stands
like a mighty giant
Dangerous
But gentle
If you think about it
IF there is life on another planet
and if they are running out of resources
they can come to ours, re-enact War of the Worlds, except humanity is wiped out
and steal our planet’s resources
so be grateful for what you have
Liam,
When you wrote that life on another planet can need our valuable resources and come and steal them — it moved me because it’s another way to get people to value what we have — by looking at it from someone else’s other-worldly point of view. It caused a gut reaction to protect our resources from the foe — but would not it be great if we all got that gut reaction to protect it from ourselves?? A good sci-fi movie in the making!!
Your words “be grateful for what you have” really moved me because it is a lesson that we all should learn. It is a special person who can incorporate a moral into a poem, and make it very impacting.
Earth Day
Earth day.
Will not decay.
Every plant planted,
Will get their wish granted:
Grow into a mature plant.
Stop using the coal plant.
And start using the panels.
To switch channels,
and everything else.
Happy Earth Day!
(This is my first time rhyming without help)
On this day we should all take the time to appreciate life.
because if the earth wasn’t here neither would we.
so we should all go outside today
not for the hole day
just long enough
so that we can feel grateful for the world we live in.
taking a walk outside and looking around will not only calm you
but it will also give you a chance to keep your mind open.
I really like the line that says, “so that we can feel grateful for the world we live in” because I think everyone at one point takes the world for granted and this is shown through our new environment. This is an important topic for everyone to consider.
I can relate to this poem because often I don’t make the time to go outside. look around and feel grateful. I’m glad like you that Earth Day gives us an extra reason to do this. Your poem inspires me to make every day Earth Day!
I enjoyed your poem. My favorite part was half way through the poem, in which you had two short lines that were key to emphasize that nature is beautiful, and everyone should spend at least part of their day “taking a walk outside” and enjoying “the world we live in”. It was a beautifully made poem. Your poem inspired me to go back outside. Thank you!
P.S. Thanks for commenting on my poem.
As the sun shines down onto the grass and trees,
the children are playing outside,
while listening to the birds chirping melodies.
Watching the flowers bloom very slowly into the beautiful flowers they are at end.
Looking at squirrels chasing their food all the way across the field.
Lastly having your family to the side of you while having an outside nature walk.
this poem seems to describe a perfect day, very interesting.
This poem is very descriptive and contains lots of imagery, like in the line “Watching the flowers bloom very slowly into the beautiful flowers they are at end.” I think you did a great job Armaan
I like how you made the first and third lines rhyme
When you wrote: ” having your family to the side of you while having an outside nature walk” I felt in total agreement that it IS extra special to share a nature walk with someone, especially family. Have you thought about why that is?
Your poem really reminds me of what this day should be celebrated by- enjoying and conserving nature. The layout of the poem is creative; The ways that nature reaches out to us, written line by line. Plus, the finishing line that you wrote, “Lastly having your family to the side of you while having an outside nature walk.”, reminds me of my family, as we took a walk at the Morton Arboretum this morning to celebrate Earth Day. That was a very nice poem; I complement you for it!
P.S. Thanks for commenting on my poem.
Imagine a world…
Where the chirping of birds is replaces with the beeping sounds of busy bulldozers back up and
plowing,
Where windows are replaced with walls, as the green views have faded into gray,
Where students dash through clouds of pollutions to their school buses while holding their breath,
And where the closest anyone can get to nature is in a screen simulation….
The path to revert our modern ways is through planting the seed of fondness towards nature in our children’s hearts, so that those children, when grown, will work hard to protect the Earth.
So beautiful. What about this poem that is most affecting me is the assonance — the internal repetition of vowel sounds — that gives your words such a musical quality: “chirping of birds is.” The
“i” sound repeats. You are bringing the sounds of nature right into this celebration of our “fondness towards nature.” Thank you!
I really like the parts you used describing a bad world to make an effect so people can help the world such as the part you said “Where windows are replaced with walls, as the green views have faded into gray.”
this poem really makes people think of what they can do to change the world, very powerful.
Trees
Trees
The gentle giants
Standing proud and strong.
Their leaves fall to the ground in the Fall
And they grow back in the Spring
Signaling life and rebirth.
They provide protection and shade
From the elements.
These trees
Standing proud and strong.
Become weak against the axe.
They fall with a thud
And their rings show us
How long they spent living
Before they were mercilessly killed.
Protect the trees.
They are strong
But they need your strength as well.
I like how you focused on one thing in your poem and showed how amazing it really is.
Spindly thin vines that wrap themselves around twigs in a circular fashion;
Leaves with vein-like patterns that have a look of elegance;
The flowers’ perfumed scent and their variety of colors;
The sounds of a babbling brook, rustling trees in the wind, and chirping crickets all together in a musical symphony….
……There is nothing like the feeling I get when I experience these things in nature.
TR
Such movement here, Todd: “wrapping,” “circular,” “patterns.”
This movement of the vines
works so well
with the dynamic sounds —
brook and trees and crickets.
I agree
that it is a symphony
— a free
one at that.
If only more of us
would just pull up
a seat
or blanket
for the concert that is nature.
I like how you gave such a input to the details of nature
(Final tree picture.)
I’ve got this problem with growing.
Once I start,
I can’t stop.
And what makes it so awful is
that if I grow any more
than ten feet tall
(which of course I always do)
I will be cut down like the tree that I am
for hard wood floors in city lofts.
I’ve tried hiding.
I’ve tried a mud bath
to cover my green.
I’ve tried hiding among
other trees.
But nothing ever works.
So when I’ve been growing
a little too much,
I pray for clouds without rain
because if it’s dry-cloudy,
I can hold off my growth spurt
a few more days.
But my leaves,
as you can see,
my green
becomes fluorescent,
glistening in the soft light
a conspicuous commodity
among my fallen friends.
I stand alone.
I cry.
I grow.
Once I start,
I can’t stop
until my time comes.
And in this forest,
a tree’s time always comes.
I like how in the poem it’s in the tree’s point of view, it gives the poem a nice meaning since it’s Earth Day
The line breaks in your poem emphasize for me the emotion of the tree such as his/her trying and still trying against the odds and the tree’s feelings of despair, “among my fallen friends”. I also love how you came back in the end with the starting line “Once I start, I can’t stop.” The loop for me shows about natures endless life cycles but how man interrupts it and who’s impact goes far beyond a beaver felling a tree or two for it’s needs. Thank you for the opportunity to explore Earth Day through all these poems on your blog.
